Please read the Telegraph article: Children being put at risk by transgender books that ‘misrepresent’ medical knowledge, academic claims.
Safe Schools Alliance are receiving an increasing number of complaints from parents and teachers regarding the inappropriateness of some books being used to explore PSHE/RSE topics in school. We encourage parents to enquire as to the appropriateness of books being read to their children in school.
We believe that books used in schools should challenge gender stereotypes and not contain erroneous or confusing messages regarding biological reality. We do, however, wholeheartedly support the use of books which celebrate the diversity of families in modern Britain.
We are alarmed at reports of books that contain homophobic and regressive messages which suggest that boys who like pink or girls with short hair are actually transgender. The notion that men and women have innately different personalities is sexism.
We thank Dr Susan Matthews Stephanie Davies-Arai of Transgender Trend and David Bell for continuing to speak out. Adult need to take their shared Duty of Care towards children seriously. Contact schools. Make enquiries. Raise concerns.
